What this superbowl actually means to Philadelphia

The Philadelphia Eagles are Superbowl LII champions! But this championship is more than just a franchise winning it’s first ring. It’s 57 years without a championship, it’s generations and generations of family being left broken hearted year after year, it’s four straight NFC championships and no rings, but most importantly it’s a city becoming one..

Eagles fan are one of the most loyal and craziest fan base in the NFL.. scratch that.. the world! As the rest of the world seen us “rioting” and “burning our city down”.. What I seen was completely different. I seen a city rejoicing, strangers hugging each other and flooding the streets with tears of joy, a city coming together for the first time in awhile.. It didn’t matter what color, race, age, gender, a cop, or what ever else society likes to separate us as.. Sunday night February 4th, 2018 we were one big family..

A city known as “Killadelphia” and for it’s tough brotherly love, it was completely opposite of that on sunday. As a city we united. Yes we tend to get carried away.. We’re Philadelphians, the craziest assholes you’ll ever meet, but don’t let that take away the fact of how devoted we are and how loving we can be once we let you in as “our brother”.

The fight, heart, faith, and family-ish feel of this team is what Philly is all about. From being underdogs and no one believing in us, to the tough “brotherly love” feel in the locker room. I myself could not be any happier of this team win or lose. They reminded me of why I love my city. For the longest time i hated Philly and avoided coming back home. After being reunited with friends and family during a time like this.. It hit me like a brick wall. I do miss Philly and will forever always love it because there is no other place in the world like it! Thursday will be filled with hundreds of thousands fans screaming and yelling in pure bliss on broad street! The city will be blasting “dreams and nightmares” and dancing as one. The motherfucking Vince Lombardi trophy is PHinally here in Philly! World champs!

This city has been waiting a long time for this moment and the world is against us and calling us amimals.. Well for you my friend.. We would just like to say Fuck You! No one likes us, and we don’t care! E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!

Is solo traveling for me?

There are a number of reasons why people chose to travel solo. It could be as simple as none of your friends want to go, or you just want to travel. It could be something more meaningful, like you want to go on a self discovery journey and find yourself, or prove to yourself you can do it. You might even be running away from something, or just want a change, something new or want the freedom. The reason you want to travel solo is yours. However you will undoubtedly grow as a person, learn so much about yourself and what your truly capable of. Traveling will open your eyes and can be one of the best life lessons you will ever receive.

My favorite part of solo traveling is the ultimate feeling of freedom, there is nobody to answer to but yourself. (that can be hard enough at times.) Every decision you make is yours, right or wrong everything is your choice. You chose when to move onto the next destination, when to go on an excursion, you decide if you want to lounge around on a beach or trek up a mountain. You chose when you want to be sociable or not. If you travel in a group, sometimes you need to compromise and even sacrifice what you want to do in favor of what the group wants. In groups trips are organised to accommodate you all, when your solo traveling you pick and chose when and what you want to do. Everybody in a group has an opinion and wants to do different things but when you’re a solo traveler it’s all on you.

A common misconception is traveling solo means being on your own all the time; it doesn’t. Even though you are solo and will be alone sometimes, you will come across people every single day. From the airport flying out to your destination, to the hostel or accommodation you’ve chose, to activities you do. You will meet a mixture of travelers and locals it’s just up to you who you want to make friends with; there is no obligation. Ask any solo traveler and they will tell you how easy it is to make friends traveling.

When going solo try staying at hostels instead of hotels and AirBnBs. Hostels are an unknown entity if you’v never stayed in one, you just don’t know what to expect or what goes on in them. You might think of a hostel as just a cheap place to sleep but they can become much more. Hostels are not hotels, so don’t expect hotel quality. Hostels are more communal, good to meet new people which is great for solo travelers, the best of friendships have been formed in hostels. What you can expect is shared spaces, social hubs, shared enmities and like minded people, there will undoubtedly be other solo travelers there too.

Hostels can become the cornerstone of your traveling experience; I know people who had a better time in a hostel and the people they shared it with rather than the place they were in (myself included). Sometimes the hostel can become the closest thing you have to a home and give you some much needed comfort. When arriving in a hostel be open minded, be receptive to what’ going on; anything and everything can go on in a hostel.

Solo traveling can be one of the best experiences of your life. It all depends on your attitude though.  It’s what you make of it. People will feed off your positive energy and vibe. Just be yourself because deep down who cares what people there think of you cause most likely you’ll never see them again. So get out there and make a fool out of yourself! Dance like there’s nobody watching! Most importantly be yourself, and remember that normal is boring!

Here’s a couple tips for solo traveling:

  • Travel smart, act like you know what you’re doing even if you don’t.
  • Enjoy your travels, take your time and don’t get stressed over little things.
  • Pack light but practical (You’re carrying that backpack everywhere you go.)
  • Be open minded, adaptable, receptive to change and be willing to grow.
  • If things go wrong, look at it as part of an adventure not the end of the world.
  • Be prepared for anything to happen.
  • Put yourself out there to make friends. You don’t need to spill your life story just be open enough to make friends.
  • Don’t be a travel snob.
  • Keep important items like passports on you when traveling from one place to another.
  • When you’re feeling lonely, try to not let it take over you.
  • It’s your trip, you do what you want with it and how you want.

Oktoberfest, the Disneyland for adults!

Do you hear that??  “CLANG” The most beautiful sound in the world!  The sound of liters of beer clanging together in a giant tent filled with 10,000+ people from all over the world!  The sound that will forever change your life.

Oktoberfest is more than just a festival.. Its paradise, and I’m not talking about palm trees on a beach sipping margaritas paradise.  No, picture you died and went to heaven, and there was a giant party when you got there..  That kind of paradise!  Or as I like to refer to it as Disneyland for adults!  Everyone dressed up as Bavarians wearing lederhosen and dirndl, dancing on tables, and singing songs with strangers.  What more could you ask for..

I decided to stay in a tent at a campground during the festival and if you’re a solo traveler like myself its not only the cheapest but the best way to make friends!  Immediately upon arriving I received a welcome beer and became friends instantly with a group of people from Australia, USA, and France who all just met that day.  We all proceeded to go down to the festival and find us a table.  The moment we arrived it was madness!  Now if you are shy Oktoberfest might not be for you.  Getting a table is somewhat hectic.  Aussie(I forgot his name) and I decided to split from the group since it would be easier for two people to get in a table vs 15 of us.  We immediately got invited to a table by a group of German girls and from then on it was nothing but pure happiness!  A couple of my friends from my hometown that I haven’t seen in 4 years later joined us.20170923_143447

For the remainder of the weekend we decided that the Paulaner Festzelt tent, would be OUR TENT!  We were there from morning to close.  Now all tents have a different vibe and scenery, and if you are a party animal like us..  This is the tent to be at!  Dance parties on top of tables, clanging beers yelling prost, and singing songs with strangers.  Weeks after coming home you will still hear the “clang” and people chanting “oh oh oh ohhhhhh oh.”  I still wake up randomly thinking I’m there.  The vibe of this tent had everyone smiling from ear to ear.

Our last full day we decided to go down early and experience the festival fully by getting our own table, riding rides, and eating pretzels and sausages.  Well due to the fact that their was a huge after party at my campsite the night before I was up until 3am seeing what other countries I could explore.(wink)  By the time we made it down it was 10/11am and we were hurting so we figured what other way to fix a massive hangover then some jagerbombs followed up with a espresso.   We finally made it to “our tent” around noon and it was packed! So much that we couldn’t even get a table to order beers.  We found these two Australian girls standing off to the side so we decided to join them.  We partied with them for the remainder of the night. We introduced them to jagerbombs, ate dinner with them, and even went on rides together. If there’s one ride I recommend doing its the swings from 100m up above!  The view of the whole festival is out of this world!  I would probably say that those 60 seconds 100m above swinging around was the happiest moment of my life.  IMG_20170924_113130_708

Being with four girls you think it would be easy to get a table..  So I told them to stick their chest out and maybe we will get lucky.  Well we got lucky but it was because of my friend’s ravishing hair.. who would of thought.  After hours of clanging beers, falling off tables, and screaming “ozi ozi ozi, Oy Oy Oy” the tent closed down..  But the night was not over for us.  Far from over!  Around 11pm the tents close and everyone proceeds to go to these parks with picnic tables to drink and eat a snack before continuing to drink like theirs no tomorrow.  After some wieners and more jager we decided to find a bar to dance at.  No clue where were at we decide to follow the crowd.(when in doubt follow the locals)  The rest of the night was a shitshow..  We danced the night away and clearly we looked like foreigners so the whole club was loving us.  I wish there was more I could tell you about the night besides us losing my friend for a little and me waking up with my shoes gone but after drinking for 12-14 hours we were all gone..20170925_193022.png

So here are a few Do’s and Don’ts if you plan on attending Oktoberfest!

Do’s:

  • Dress up! Buy a lederhosen or dirndl trust me its half the experience and you’ll also look out of place if you dont
  • Party at the Paulaner tent at least one night!(you wont be disappointed)
  • Bring cash!  Lots of it! Beers average around 12-15 euros for a liter.
  • Utilize the metro.  Prices for taxis and uber are tripled during this time of the year.
  • Experience the breathtaking views from the swings and Ferris wheel.

Don’ts:

  • Be rude to the ladies giving out beers.  They will purposely skip you and make you wait.
  • Stand on top of the tables.  Easy way to get dragged out.
  • Be a badload.  Don’t be that person that pukes everywhere and ruins it for everyone around them!
  • Most importantly! Don’t be a dick!

**Bring a thirst for beer and your smile and you are sure to have a life changing experience.  You will meet some of the friendliest people there.  We all have one purpose during Oktoberfest!  Drink and have a great time! PROST!!!!!**IMG_20170922_193145_030

Belgium waffles, chocolate, and blackouts..

There are many things Belgium is known for like their mouthwatering waffles, delicious chocolate, and you can’t forget about the Belgium beers.  If theirs one thing they do right, it’s beer.  I’ve tried over 60+ different beers when I was there for 8 days and not a single one was bad! But you have to be careful because not only are they ridiculously delicious, they’re extremely strong which may lead blacking out, making bad decisions, and a massive hangover…

I was in Belgium on business for 8 days a couple months ago.  Which if you ever get the chance to go, do it!  Brussels, a city bursting with energy and is full of life! Bruges, a fairy-tale medieval town with jaw-dropping beautiful architecture and filled with so many canals that it’s referred to as the Venice of the north.  And then there is Ghent, a university town and cultural hub that is just filled with bars everywhere you look! What more could you ask for!? Right?!

So as mentioned I was there on business and one of the locals I was working with recommended going to this street in Ghent that is just a mile long of bars.. A dream come true in my world.  I decided to check it out with a couple of co-workers while we were in Brussels.  After a 30 minute train ride and 15 minutes of walking we finally made it. It was everything I expected to be.. People just walking around drinking, bar after bar after bar, beautiful women, and half-priced drinks.  I was so overwhelmed I didn’t know where to start..

Untill I noticed a sign that said 1€ you call it till midnight. We walked in and immediately started double fisting with shots of tequila between.  Before you know it my one friend was on the DJ booth taking shots with a bunch of randoms, the other was on a barstool just Dabbing like no other, and I’m doing flaming shots and taking advantage of every minute of the happy hour. So once it hit midnight we proceeded to the next bar and the next and the next.  Next thing you know I’m at my sixth bar by myself dancing on bars and chanting whatever they were chanting, the other one was lost wondering around in the street, and the other got kicked out for face planting trying to open a door that wasn’t there…

Eventually we all found eachother. All of trashed out of our minds wanting to just go home and sleep but the trains didn’t start running again till 4am and it was only 2am.  So we were in a pickle.  Pay 100+ euros for a taxi or stay and keep partying and catch the train.  So we did what we thought made sense.. Drink more and catch the train!  After that I couldn’t tell you much.  I don’t even know how I got on the train but we made it!

Were on the train being drunk idiots, having a good time and before you know it all 3 of us were passed out cold.. Only a 30 minute train ride.. Not one of us woke up for 2 hours.  So it’s Friday morning people are trying to get to work and then there’s me.. Passed out taking up 3 seats, snoring, and drooling on some guy thats just to get to work.  Finally one of them wakes up and realizes it’s daylight and were passing stops that don’t seem familiar…

Were now in fucking Germany!!🇩🇪 15 stops pass where we were supposed to go. We all woke up confused as hell, still drunk, and we have everyone starring at us like were assholes..  Now there’s been times where I blacked out and woke up in a different city or state.. But never another country. Not sure if I should be proud or ashamed but it was one hell of a night! Just a little side note if you go to Belgium or Germany don’t try to keep up with the locals.. They’re fucking crazy and can drink like there’s no tomorrow! Oh and if you’re taking a train have a designated soberish drunk friend to stay up so you make it home! Just remember drink responsible and by responsible I mean don’t spill it! Cheers!

Madrid, pineapple pizza, tattoos, and a tinder date don’t mix!

Being a backpacker, there is this unwritten rule that you have to collect something unique everywhere you go. Normal people collect bracelets, shot glasses, post cards, etc.. Not me though, I for some dumb reason get tattoos every country I go to. I call them my passport stamps and all of them have a story behind it. Some I’m not so proud of..

With that being said one of my favorite tattoos and most asked about is the one with a pizza 🍕 and pineapple🍍holding hands on my leg. This one is unique because I woke up the next morning not knowing I had it until I jumped in the shower.

So here I am in Madrid, Spain just on a casual tinder date with this local Jess eating tapas and drinking Sangria outside. We were about to finish up dinner and jump on her motorscooter and drive around the city and do tourist stuff, when out of no where we hear “Jess WTF!” Her face looked like she just seen a ghost and without turning around to look who it was she just said “oh F*ck”.. Like she knew what the remainder of the night was about to consist of.

It was 8 of her girl friends walking by and noticed her. Without saying anying else they pull up another table and a bunch of chairs and turned to the waiter said something in Spanish. Before I knew what was going on the waiter came back with 10 bottles of wine.. Jess was embarrassed by her friends but I was loving it. My favorite thing about solo traveling is making friends! So all eyes on me now. They’re asking questions left and right about me while we all are chugging straight from the wine bottles. Before you know its 11pm and theres is 26 empty bottles on the table. Jess and I were both trashed at this point and were just going to head home and call it a night.. So I thought..

They were not finished with the night. The following events were a little blurry so from here on out is what I had to be told the next morning. Since I told them I’m a huge tequila drinker they decided to take me to this bar in a park that sold flaming shots of tequila. After that we went to one the most popular clubs in spain that not only had a pizza shop right next to it but also a tattoo shop that just so happens to be open 24/7..

As the night goes on I get into an argument with one of her friends about pineapple belonging on pizza. Things were getting heated and I was losing the argument so to make my case for it and also a free shot of tequila I went next door and got the pizza and pineapple tattooed on my leg.. Not only did I win but she had to eat an entire Hawaiian pizza to herself that she later threw up in the club and got us kicked out for.

The thing about it though is that I’m not that much of a fan of pineapple on pizza. Never really was.. But from here on out I gotta support it and I’m behind it 100%

Moral of the story: Pineapple goes on Pizza!!! Also who has a 24/7 tattoo shop.. What an asshole!! You sir are a genius but yet an asshole!!

**Also don’t jump on a merry-go-round with a beer in hand you will be put in cuffs!**

My night in Marrakech, Morocco

So as promised.. I said I would start posting my drunken adventures while traveling the world. Please keep you negative comments to yourself cause quite frankly I don’t give a damn. Its my life and I’m living it how I want to. Sooo here we go…

It’s my first night in Marrakech and Im out doing what I love most, roaming the streets without a plan or a clue where I’m going. I stumbled upon this rooftop bar overlooking the city and the atlas mountains.  It was beautiful, everything you could ask for but I wasn’t really in the mood to drink much since I was at a club till 4am the night before in Casablanca with some local I met on tinder. But anyway so I decide to wonder more and get some dinner and head home to rest considering I had a big day climbing mountains and swimming under waterfalls the next day.

I find this nice French restaurant and enjoy an awesome dinner by myself along with a few drinks. So I pay my bill and start to walk to my apartment.. So I thought.. On my way out I was approached by a cook(Ralph) who’s shift just ended and we started talking. He found it insane that I was traveling alone. He then insisted to take me out and show me how the locals actually party.  Hungover/hurting/tired but I simply cannot say no when it comes to partying. So without hesitation I said yes!
We immediately become bestfriends. He took me to some little local bar owned by his cousin for some cheap drinks.  Next he took me to like a local Moroccan bar like if you weren’t from there you wouldn’t know it existed. Their was some weird music playing and just shit you see in the movies, older Moroccans banging on their bangos or whatever there called n singing and theres belly dancers all around me and just some weird shit going on but it was awesome!

Soo were drinking having a blast getting dumb drunk. Then he says hey I’m gonna call my friend(Vale) to see what she’s doing and if she wants to drink with us. Then we go to another local spot ran by his friend. We order a bottle wine (red which i hate) and a bottle of champagne and double whiskeys. At this point I’m shitfaced were ripping shots of espresso just to be alive. All of sudden she comes in and she is straight gorgeous! I’m like thinking in my head yea your definetly sitting on my face tonight! We immediately connect and now were all getting tanked at this bar and I thought OK were just going to chill here and have a not so crazy night…  Boy was I wrong..

So they take me to a local club like some underground shit! We get 2 bottles of Johnnie walker for 3 of us. This club is nuts its like Arabic music blasting, people dancing on bars, everyone just having a blast i even think the King himself made an appearance(probably not I was just really drunk at this point). I make some more friends with locals I’m running around pouring whiskey down peoples throats and then out of no where this guy jumps on stage and starts singing a song about me with my name in it. Kinda weird but it was cool.  Next thing I know Ralph the guy who brought me there is passed out on the DJ booth. He gets thrown out so its just Vale and me now. I didn’t wanna leave with him cause we were vibing, and I made alot of friends there. So we stayed and danced the night away, at one point I was on stage shirtless.. So its like 4 am and we decided to go home so we ordered a 3rd bottle and took it back to my place… But… I’m so drunk i don’t know where my apartment it. We had our taxi driver drive us all around Marrakech looking for it as I’m sitting there with my head out the sunroof slamming a bottle of Johnny walker.

Finally we find it.  We go to the roof and stay up all night finishing the bottle and what not as the sunrises. Soo i have a tour at 830 and she wouldn’t leave cause she wanted money for a taxi because she left her purse in the club but refused to go with me to the ATM to get money.. So now were yelling and stuff cause she thinks I’m just kicking her out.  Meanwhile it 845 and I have the Brady bunch(my tour group) outside waiting to pick me up for this tour.. I’m already late. They’re getting all pissy on me and im just stuck arguing with her. So finally I order her an uber and got her out.. Meanwhile I’ve been up all night I’m piss drunk at 9 am and i smell like stale beer and bad decisions. I have Cindy Lou and the fucking hoeville over here just eyeing me up while I’m forcing myself to puke so I could sober up a little.

So now were climbing up mountains and hiking to get to places and it was just terrible i threw up in the river and all the locals looked at me all pissed off like i just pissed in there Cheerios like my bad Steve calm down.. But once we got to Ouzo waterfall and got to play with monkeys it was well worth the hike! The hangover was instantly cured and I got to enjoy what was one of the best experiences of my life in the Atlas mountains.. With a tour group that completely hated me..

Moral of the story “Say yes to new adventures, and you’d be surprised to what the world has to offer”
